Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation

Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation is an emerging branch of specialty veterinary medicine concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of patients with painful or functionally limiting conditions.

Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation is an emerging branch of specialty veterinary medicine concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of patients with painful or functionally limiting conditions. It combines the traditional functions of physical rehabilitation with medical and surgical intervention and limb replacement prosthetics, braces, and other assistive devices. The specialty was designed to meet the unique needs of athletic and working animals in need of rehabilitation, but is of course equally valuable and accessible to family pets and weekend athletes of all shapes, sizes and ages.

Rehabilitation medicine aims to decrease pain, improve healing, enhance performance, prevent compensatory injuries, restore functional ability and maintain an excellent quality of life. Rehabilitation veterinarians specialize in musculoskeletal rehabilitation, neurologic injuries, sports medicine, osteoarthritis, pain management, and treat illnesses that affect movement. This is achieved via interventional and regenerative medicine and traditional physiotherapy.

Our team at VSH – North County will customize a program for your pet that may consist of a combination of interventional, regenerative medicine, and traditional physiotherapy. Our goal is always to manage or restore functionality in order to maintain an excellent quality of life for your pet.

Your wellness goals for your pet may range from managing chronic disease, to surgical recovery, to non-surgical treatment of orthopedic injury or neurologic disease. The needs of each patient are unique and treatment plans are customized. We hope you will consider us to be a partner in your pet’s recovery process.

Together we will establish a comprehensive approach to achieving your goals for your pet. These may include:

  • Improving mobility
